Leggings rules: Friend or Foe?

There is a reason why so many women embrace leggings. Leggings are comfortable, versatile and if worn correctly, stylish.

Since the evolution of leggings in 2004, leggings have transformed into lighting bolt printed faux pants to leather leggings women only wish their office manager allowed them to wear. But wearing those leggings the wrong way can break the cardinal rule in fashion.

PrettyLookBook readers, prepare yourself for life changing rules that will change the legging game and have you rocking your fave pair of leggings the right way….

1st Rule of Leggings: Long Tops are a must

There should be no debate with rule number one. Cover your backside.

2nd Rule of Leggings: Leggings are not pants

This has been a debate for many years but if the person walking behind you can see your underpants or dimples on your butt then they are not pants.

3rd Rule of Leggings: The mall is not a yoga studio

Wearing leggings everyday, all day, gets boring fast. Relaxed boyfriend jeans or high-waist geometric pants are a great outfit statements that come in a variety of colors and styles.

4th Rule of Leggings: Not All Shoes go with leggings

Wearing a dressy shoe with a dainty heel will create major dissonance with leggings. However pairing a more casual, chunkier heeled shoe with leggings will make your legs look longer and slimmer and more put-together. Remember, leggings are never to be considered ‘business-casual’ or dressy, so never mix delicate or fancy shoes with them.

Sometimes rules are meant to be broken but let’s not forget these basics so you can face the world stylishly and confidently in your fave leggings!
